Winter has arrived here in Yuba City, Sacramento and with it tends to come a rise in garage door repair calls. While the weather doesn’t get as cold here as other states, the temperature drops can still affect your garage door.
Metal will contract during temperature fluctuations and the best way to counter this is to apply lubricant monthly during winter. Apply a light coat of white lithium grease or silicone to your garage door springs, bearings, metal rollers, and hinges.
If the temperature drops below freezing, you may notice your garage door starting to seize up. This usually happens when built up lubricant freezes. You can remove this build-up with a gentle solvent before reapplying a light amount of lubricant.
Don’t forget to inspect the weather stripping found along the base of the garage door. If it looks torn up, replace it. It’ll help keep the outside elements from entering your garage.
Lastly, if you live in an area that has snow, don’t let it build up on the outside of your door. It may cause damage, so stay on top of shoveling your driveway throughout the winter.
