Broken Garage Door Spring? Replace Both!

Broken Garage Door Spring? Replace Both!

Most garage doors will operate with either two extension springs or two torsion springs. If your garage door spring broke, you may be wanting to only replace the broken one to save money. But doing this can cost you more in the long run. Springs are rated to last a certain length of time. When one spring breaks, the other one is not far behind. If you only replace one spring and the next one breaks, you’ll have to pay the fee of another service call. If you want to save money, replace both springs at the same time, even if the other one isn’t broken yet.

Extension Springs vs Torsion Garage Springs

If you’re about to schedule a garage door spring repair service, then you’ll probably have the option of choosing extension springs or torsion springs. We always recommend using the newer torsion springs unless you have space limitations that require extension. Torsion springs are safer, more efficient, and last much longer. They do cost slightly more but they end up saving you money in the long run as you won’t need to replace them as quickly as extension. Furthermore, extensions springs can cause wear and tear on your other garage door parts due to the jerking motion they have.
